If you’re anything like me, you probably suck at saving money. It’s those “oh but it’s only a tenner” and “I don’t need it, but I deserve a little treat” moments that eat up all your money and leave you wondering where it’s all gone by the end of the month. Raise your hand if you’re guilty of this as well... don’t be shy.

How many times have you thought about saving money only to roll your eyes and think “yeah if only it were that easy... I don’t have enough money to save?” Now, let me ask you another question; how many times have you purchased something you don’t really need just because it’s cheap? My guess is more often than you’d like to admit.

Let me introduce you to a little app that saved my life [and money]... it’s called Tandem.

What Is Tandem?

Tandem is an app (available to download on iPhone or Android) that allows you to spend your money positively and save your money effortlessly. It’s so easy to get started, it took me less than 10 minutes to set up my own account.

Once your account is connected, it automatically calculates your expenses for the month and shows you how much ‘spending money’ you have for the rest of the month, which is such a helpful feature for those who may not be very good at tracking their expenses (aka me).

Another great feature Tandem offers is autosavings.

What Are Autosavings?

Tandem makes it super easy to save your money. Once you set up autosavings, you never have to worry about it again as Tandem will do it all for you. They offer three easy ways to start saving from the get go; round ups, safe to save and regular deposits. You can start by using as little or as many of the options as you desire - there’s no commitment.

what are round ups?

Tandem will automatically round up your card transactions to the nearest pound. Over the course of the week, Tandem calculates all the extra pennies and move them into your savings account. You won’t even notice it’s gone, but a few extra pennies here and there can add up over time.

what is safe to save?

The safe to save feature analyses your account and predicts what you can afford to save based on your income and expenses. They’ll then move this into your savings account.

what are regular deposits?

If you feel you can afford to save a little extra, Tandem allows you to make a weekly or monthly deposit into your savings account with the touch of a button.

What else do I need to know?

The money that’s moved into your Tandem savings account will be kept there, earning 0.5% AER, and protected by FSCS up to £85,00. You won’t have to worry about a thing as your money is securely locked away for the length of your term. And what’s better than knowing that you’re going to get back more than you put in?!

If you want to apply, you must be 18 or old, live in the UK (with 3 years address history) and you must have a UK current account.
