I’ve been searching for the ‘perfect’ foundation since I began wearing makeup. I don’t even want to think about the amount of different foundations I’ve gone through over the years. The problem is, none of them ever seemed to work for me. Most of them would give me the coverage I needed, but they all seemed to make my face look quite dry come the end of the day.
When Rihanna launched Fenty Beauty, I jumped at the chance to try out the Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Foundation. The overwhelming amount of praise and positive reviews it received, especially amongst the black community, was enough to tempt me to buy it. I know I’m a bit late with my review, but I wanted to make sure I really have found the perfect foundation before I raved about it on here.
I’ve been wearing this foundation for about six months now and I STILL haven’t gotten bored of it. Usually, when I try out a new foundation, I love it at first but after a while I begin to see its faults and inevitably end up searching for a new one. This is definitely not the case for the Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Foundation. It is honestly, without a doubt, the BEST foundation I’ve EVER used.
A common struggle for women of colour is not being able to find a foundation in their shade. A lot of foundations are too light, have the wrong undertones or simply don’t have a good shade range. With 40 shades to choose from, Fenty Beauty is a life saver for those who struggle when it comes to colour matching.
Personally, I don’t like ordering makeup online. I prefer to see and test the physical product for myself before I commit to purchasing it, especially if it leans more towards the slightly more expensive side. When I visited the Fenty Beauty counter at Harvey Nichols, they took one look at my complexion and picked out the perfect shade for me (I wear 360) straight away; there was no hassle at all. If you’re unable to visit Harvey Nichols, you can use the colour matcher on the Fenty Beauty website; I’ve heard a lot of positive reviews about it.
Unlike most foundations, the Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Foundation stays perfect throughout the day. I can apply it when I first wake up in the morning and it’ll look just as good when I get home 12 hours later. Rihanna truly has created a masterpiece with this one.
The foundation is build-able, which makes it perfect for all seasons. You can easily achieve the amount of coverage you need without worrying about it looking cakey. One of the things I love the most about this foundation is how lightweight it feels; you almost forget you’re wearing anything on your face at all.
IS IT WORTH THE SPEND?
The foundation claims to “give skin an instantly smooth, pore-diffused, shine-free finish that easily builds to medium to full coverage. The oil-free formula is made with climate-adaptive technology that’s resistant to sweat and humidity, and won’t clog pores so that wherever you are, it’s going to work on your skin. Best of all, this longwearing, light-as-air texture is undetectable on skin — so you always look like you.”
After wearing this foundation for such a long time, I can honestly say that this statement is a pretty good representation of how the foundation performs (from my personal experience). The only thing I would say is that it’s not totally shine-free. However, this can be easily fixed by applying a small amount of powder over the top of your finished look.
Like I mentioned previously, I’ve been using this foundation for six months now and guess what… I still haven’t run out! Since I’ve been using it for so long I am expecting to run out soon so I’m planning on purchasing another one within the next couple of weeks.
The foundation retails for £26 and considering how good it is and how long it’s lasted me, I think this is a bargain!
Obviously everyones skin is different so the foundation will perform differently based on your skin type. If you don’t like a matte finish then this isn’t going to be the foundation for you. For me, however, this foundation is perfect and I don’t plan on changing anytime soon.
